School Ethos

At The Old Priory School, we understand that to make academic progress our students need to feel safe, secure, valued, and confident. Our approach to education is based on the concept of the whole child, and our aim is for every student to feel:

  • Connected to each other, to the adults who support them, to the curriculum they study, and to the learning environment.

  • Capable of achieving and experiencing success in their endeavors both academic and personal.

  • Comfortable in their learning environment and with themselves.

  • In control of their emotional selves and included in the decisions that impact their lives, education, and future.

  • That they count and are important to each other, the adults that support them, and to the wider school community.

Our students have complex Social, Emotional, Mental Health needs, have experienced early childhood trauma, and have significant attachment difficulties. We respond to these needs empathetically, supporting students to develop the skills and understanding that empower them to make progress and reach their potential.
